Quick & Easy Cleaning Tips
Refrigerator Maintenance
To remove refrigerator odors, pour vanilla on a cotton swab and place the swab in the refrigerator.
To get those dust bunnies out from under the refrigerator, first remove the grill, then cover a yardstick with a pair of pantyhose and run it. Be sure to also check the pan of water underneath the unit, since it can hold unpleasant-smelling water.
To keep odors from transfering from one food item to the next, store an open box of baking soda in the refrigerator.
Carpet & Wallpaper
For crayon spots on wallpaper, try using a cotton cloth moistened with denatured alcohol and wipe the spot gently. Be sure to test in an inconspicuous place first.
If a carpet is matted from the pressure of furniture, brush lightly or use the edge of a coin to rejuvinate the fibers.
Copper & Chrome
To polish copper, rub an ample amount of catsup on the copper and let it stand for 5 minutes. Rinse off the catsup with hot water and dry to find an incredible shine.
To remove rust from chrome, wipe it with aluminum foil dipped in Coke®. To polish chrome, use a crumbled up piece of aluminum foil and rub.
Appliances
To clean mineral deposits from the inside of your dishwasher, pour in a container of Tang® Drink Mix and run the dishwasher (don't put dishes in the dishwasher for this load).
Clean your washing machine of soap scum by adding a 1/2 cup of vinegar and running through a cycle.
Pour a cup of baking soda down any drain and follow with a few cups of boiling water to keep drains running well and smelling good. You can use baking soda just like you would use a powdered cleanser to clean your sink.
Living Area & Bathroom
To keep ants out of the house, find where the ants are entering the house and sprinkle a "barrier" of cinnamon or any type of ground pepper to block their way. The spices are too hot for the ants to cross.
If the recommended alkaline soap scum remover does not get rid of the soap scum in your bathroom, you may try some automatic dishwasher solution and warm water. Also, when disinfecting this area, let your cleaning solution soak for 10 to 15 minutes prior to scrubbing.
Use removable mats at entrances, inside and outside, to prevent excess dirt in high-traffic areas. If some muddy foot prints make their way to the carpet, wait until they are thoroughly dry and vacuum.
To keep cat litter fresh smelling, mix baby powder in with the litter.
